SUMMARY:Yoga for Healing Trauma w/ Alexandra Culotta
DESCRIPTION:Trauma impacts everyone at some point in their life. These experiences are stored in the body and can contribute to lasting symptoms.  \nIn this workshop\, we will address the ways traumatic events impact the body. We will find safety in our bodies and with each other. We will practice techniques for nervous system regulation and pain relief. We will practice deeper stretching to access trauma stored in the fascia of the body.  \nThis workshop will begin with a discussion and handouts on the effects of trauma on the nervous system and body\, states of arousal\, tools for self regulation\, and methods for healing trauma. We will then move into a gentle Asana practice\, focused on breathwork\, centering\, and finding calm within the body. Participants will be invited to journal about their experience before a brief break.  \nThe second half will begin with slightly more active practice involving bilateral hemisphere switching and release. As a group\, we will practice safety with others through optional shared contact exercises.  \nOur final phase on our mats will be deeper gentle stretching\, to begin accessing the trauma stored within the body. Participants will be invited to journal once again\, before we close with a sharing circle.  \nParticipants in this workshop will leave with:  \n\nTools for self-regulation in moments of distress as well as general anxiety\nA renewed sense of safety in their bodies as well as with others\nPoses to calm and relieve pain associated with trauma and stress\nEnhanced understanding of how trauma impacts the body\nThe knowledge that they can opt out of any part of the workshop and/or do whatever makes them feel safe\, without criticism or judgement.\n\n\n\nCost: $30 \n\nFinancial Aid Available- Please stop by the front desk or email Kelsey@ashevillecommunityyoga.org \n \nPLEASE NOTE: We encourage pre-registration for all programming. Registering in advance guarantees your spot and helps the studio have adequate staffing. If fewer than 5 participants register the event may be canceled. \nRefund Policy: We understand that life happens and unforeseen circumstances come up. If life offers up an unexpected event and you need to withdraw from the workshop: \n\nA full refund will be issued if you need to withdraw 4+ days before the workshop.
