SUMMARY:Dementia Caregiver Support w/ Diane Saccone
DESCRIPTION:CREATING A CULTURE OF INCLUSION: \nCaring for loved ones living with Dementia \nDementia is an umbrella term for various progressive neurological conditions causing severe cognitive decline\, to include memory loss\, difficulty remembering familiar tasks\, and behavioral changes\, impacting daily life. Over 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s. By 2050\, this number is projected to rise to nearly 14 million. 1 in 9 people age 65 and older has Alzheimer’s. \nHealth and long-term care costs for people living with dementia are projected to reach $384 billion in 2025 and nearly $1 trillion with over 12 million Americans providing unpaid care for people with Alzheimer’s or other dementias. In 2024\, unpaid caregivers provided an estimated more than 19 billion hours of care valued at more than $413 billion. \nThe dilemma of caregiving for parents with dementia involves immense emotional\, physical\, and ethical challenges\, balancing the parent’s dwindling autonomy with safety\, managing behavioral issues like wandering or repetitive questions\, and the caregiver’s own well-being\, often leading to isolation\, burnout\, and health problems\, while navigating complex decisions about care levels and financial burdens. It’s a constant struggle to provide care while preserving dignity\, deciding when to intervene versus honoring wishes\, and finding support amidst overwhelming stress and a changing family dynamic. \nIn this workshop\, we will go over identifying the signs of Dementia and when and how to intervene. We will also discuss the process of becoming a caregiver\, key dilemmas and challenges. \nCoping & Solutions Information will be provided on how to seek support\, find respite care\, and learn easy ways on how to make time for your own health to avoid burnout. Information will be provided to understand the disease to better manage behaviors and expectations of your loved ones. \nWe will learn how to raise awareness of dementia so that our community develops respect and inclusion for people living with dementia. \nA workbook will be provided to include local resources and services that will help you work through this journey. \nA gentle yoga practice will round out the workshop to help tend to your nervous system and provide simple tools to help you cope with managing stress that accompanies your role as a caregiver. \nCost: $25 Financial Aid Available \n\n \n \n Click Here to Register\n \n \n \n \n \n PLEASE NOTE: We encourage pre-registration for all programming.
