SUMMARY:6 Week Balance Series                                                                                      for Falls Prevention w/ Diane Saccone
DESCRIPTION:^ Please note this date refers to the first of 6 sessions. ( This course will occur over 6 consecutive Saturdays from Jan 6th-Feb 10th from 1:30 pm- 3:00 pm) \n\n\n\nat Asheville Community Yoga (*This course is full*) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFalls are the #1 cause of unintentional death in adults 65 andabove and a leading cause of death for adults living with chronicconditions such as heart disease. \n\n\n\nThis 6 week series works to improve balance\, build muscle strength\, flexibilityand mobility to enhance overall physical health\, which leads to better functioningin daily activities. Participation in the program may also result in better mentalhealth\, reduced stress\, improved memory and cognition\, and increasedself-esteem. \n\n\n\nThe program is taught in a safe and supported group setting which will provideparticipants the opportunity to feel engaged while having fun and making newfriends. \n\n\n\nDiane Saccone\, MS MT (ASACP) ERYT 500 spent the majority of her career in the field of Clinical Laboratory medicine changing careers after her move with her husband to Western North Carolina in 2005. She also developed the active older adult program at the YMCA of Western North Carolina where she served as the Director of Healthy Aging Initiatives and traveled through the Y of the USA as a subject matter expert on aging; lecturing and teaching evidence based falls prevention programs across the country. \n\n\n\nCost: $100 for entire course  \n\n\n\n(participants must register for entire series\, no drop-in attendance) \n\n\n\nFinancial Aid Available  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE: We encourage pre-registration for all programming. Registering in advance guarantees your spot and helps the studio have adequate staffing. DESCRIPTION:Through Area Agency on Aging  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n(*Please note\, this is not a one day event but an 8 week series. Class meets Mondays from 10 a.m. – noon beginning January 8th and ending February 26th 2024) \n\n\n\n\n@ Asheville Community Yoga \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe fear of falling is common among older adults and can increase a person’s risk of falling. A Matter of Balance provides strategies to reduce this fear and increase confidence. Learn practical information for preventing falls\, exercises to improve strength and balance\, tips for getting off the ground after a fall\, how to improve home safety\, and more in this eight-session series. \n\n\n\n\n\nThe program is designed to benefit older adults who: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAre concerned about falls.\n\n\n\nHave sustained falls in the past.\n\n\n\nRestrict activities because of concerns about falling.\n\n\n\nAre interested in improving flexibility\, balance\, and strength.\n\n\n\nAre age 60 or older\, community-dwelling\, and able to problem-solve.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCost: Free for all adults ages 60+ \n\n\n\nFor more information\, or to Register\, contact:  \n\n\n\nBrea Kuykendall \n\n\n\n(828) 251-7438 \n\n\n\nbrea@landofsky.org

DESCRIPTION:at Asheville Community Yoga \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this workshop we will use various yogic practices to find peace amidst our busy lives. We will explore breathing techniques\, chanting\, gentle flow and therapeutic yoga practices\, yoga nidra and meditation to calm down our minds. These techniques help us to tap into the parasympathetic nervous system.
