SUMMARY:Integrative Breathwork for Self-Discovery with Margaret Kirschner & Eddie LeShure
DESCRIPTION:ACY will provide eye-coverings for this workshop\, but please bring your own if you would prefer. \nIntegrative Breathwork is a powerful adjunct to meditation and yoga\, effective for working with addiction\, trauma\, depression\, and anxiety. The process is very safe and simple\, combining accelerated breathing with evocative music in an eyes closed setting. You remain in complete control of your own process. \nIntegrative Breathwork Sessions • Expand your mind • Receive inner guidance • Create and strengthen new neural pathways \nEvocative music and dynamic breathing open the door to insights and inner guidance • Learn to trust yourself • Know that your answers are within • Gain confidence\, feel lighter • Loosen the negative grip of past trauma \nDynamic Breathing\, Expanded Mind Taking fuller breaths more rapidly\, accompanied by carefully selected music that guides your experience\, can nudge you into a non-ordinary state of consciousness. Your brain’s typical default mode relaxes. Most of us have an overactive\, self-critical “monkey mind\,” which slips out of the way as we continue to breathe faster\, more deeply\, and continuously. Soon\, inner wisdom reveals important insights which can shift a dysfunctional habitual thinking pattern\, providing a new way to look at ourselves and our relationship to the events of our life. \nSoftens the Grip of Past Conditioning For many people\, noticing\, accepting\, and expressing authentic feelings is a learned skill that requires practice. A common phrase is “What you resist persists.” it is natural to resist what is uncomfortable and lean\, instead\, towards avoiding that discomfort by suppressing emotions and stifling the ones that we perceive are not acceptable\, such as anger or sadness\, perhaps. Integrative breathwork recognizes the pervasive impact of personal and collective trauma and responds with tools that untangle it while also intending to avoid re-traumatization. It is an efficient way to clear conditioned resistance. \nIf you are pregnant\, have cardiovascular concerns\, severe hypertension (untreated high blood pressure)\, severe mental illness\, epilepsy or have had recent surgery\, infection\, illness or fever\, please do not sign up.  If you have asthma\, please bring your inhaler with you. \n \nCost: $30Financial Aid Available- Please stop by the front desk\, call\, or email kelsey@ashevillecommunityyoga.org. \nMargaret Kirschner is a Certified Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Therapist (E-RYT 500 C-IAYT)\, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC)\, ACISTE Certified Mental Health Professional (ACMHP)\, Peer Support Specialist (CPSS)\, Breathwork Facilitator and Birth Doula. Margaret safely supports individuals in learning to listen to and trust their bodies with an attitude of curiosity and compassion. Says Margaret\, “My greatest joy is witnessing people reclaiming their lives through the simple and profound practices of yoga\, breathwork\, and mindfulness.” \nEddie LeShure is a Certified Yoga Instructor (RYT 200)\, Meditation Teacher\, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC)\, Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS)\, Spiritual Emergence Coach ® (IMHU)\,and Breathwork Facilitator. Eddie’s personal journey took him deep into the throes of active addiction and incarceration on a drug arrest. His two years behind bars were mostly spent in the notorious Attica Prison where he survived a rebellion in 1971 that killed 43 inmates and employees. As a survivor of extreme trauma\, his personal healing and how he works with others has always been guided by deep understanding and compassion. As co-owner of A Mindful Emergence LLC\, he provides preparation\, facilitation and integration for those intentionally using plant medicines and other psychedelics. His primary passion is providing trauma-sensitive\, somatic mindfulness and self-compassion practices to support us effectively embracing our full range of thoughts\, feelings and physical sensations. \nFor more information on Margaret and Eddie\, please see their website here. \n \nPLEASE NOTE: We encourage pre-registration for all programming. Registering in advance guarantees your spot and helps the studio have adequate staffing. SUMMARY:Alignment 101 w/ Dana Maria
DESCRIPTION: Strengthen and stabilize your practice to improve safety and confidence.\nYoga poses don’t have alignment—people do.  \nEver wonder why we do the poses the way we do them? Or why the posture doesn’t quite land in your body? Want to deepen your personal practice with a better understanding of the asana limb of yoga? \nJoin us for a 2-hour all-levels workshop where we’ll explore how to create alignment that works for your body. We’ll move through the poses typically found in any Gentle or Vinyasa class to really get to the heart of how your body can land in each posture\, and fully understand the difference between discomfort and pain. \nThrough mindful movement\, and practical techniques\, you’ll learn how to: \n-Adapt poses to fit your unique structure-Find stability and ease in your practice-Reduce strain and prevent injury-& Cultivate awareness of your body’s natural alignment.  \nEach asana has its own specific benefits and goals. SUMMARY:SOMA Awakening Breathwork Journey w/ Kyle Espenshade
DESCRIPTION:Note: All breathwork techniques should ideally be done on an empty stomach\, or at least 1-2 hrs after eating a full meal. All levels are welcome. \nThe SOMA Breath is designed to give you energy\, clarity\, and improve fitness and endurance in a fun and exciting way. \nThis 2 hour workshop combines breathwork\, visualization\, and our signature SOMA Breath music that helps you synchronize your breathing to a perfect rhythm. \nSoma is a name given to a sacred shamanic ritual involving psychedelics\, breathwork and meditation. The rishis of ancient India would partake of this sacred medicine and receive profound visions about the eternal truths of the universe. Originally a tradition that was passed down orally\, they eventually began to write down their Divine downloads in texts such as the Rig Veda. Through their practice\, they were able to achieve complete mastery of their physical body and mental faculties. \nThis special ritual involving special tribal music\, chanting\, proprietary music technology and breathwork will alter your state of consciousness in a profound way without the need for ingesting psychedelics. In a similar way to the rishis you may receive downloads\, visions and moments of great inspiration. \nThe key to manifesting is reaching peak emotional states and implanting intentions in this heightened state. Use this time to create powerful visualizations of the future you want to create. Your sexual energy will become charged and your personal magnetism will expand. \nBoosts & Improves: Oxygen efficiency\, respiratory & cardiovascular health\, immune system\, bodily coherence\, blood sugar levels\, vitality\, stamina\, endurance\, tissue/muscle/cell repair & production\, flow of cerebrospinal fluid\, directed neurogenesis\, concentration\, cognitive function\, memory\, emotional & hormonal balance\, confidence\, growth & circulation of stem-cells for the ultimate healing & regeneration \nReleases & Relieves: Asthma\, arthritis\, aches & pains\, sleep disorders\, high blood pressure\, nasal blockages\, addictive behaviors\, past traumas\, anxiety\, depression\, resentment\, anger & other negative thoughts & emotions \nCost: $30Financial Aid Available- Please stop by the front desk or email Kelsey@ashevillecommunityyoga.org \n \nPLEASE NOTE: We encourage pre-registration for all programming. SUMMARY:Self Regulation: The Vagus Nerve w/ Diane Saccone (In-Person and Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:The vagus is the tenth cranial nerve\, originating in the brain stem and traveling through the face\, neck\, lungs\, heart\, diaphragm\, and abdomen\, including the stomach\, spleen\, intestines\, colon\, liver\, and kidneys. The vagus nerve is intricately connected to mood\, immune response\, digestion\, and heart rate. \nWhen we engage with something greater than ourselves and feel a sense of connection to others and the outside world\, it activates the vagus nerve—which can help lower blood pressure\, inhibit the stress response and reduce inflammation. It can also increase heart rate variability (a biomarker of improved health)\, reduce pain and improve sleep and mood. \nThis workshop will help you become skilled at switching between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system with greater ease and choice and help you reclaim the balance of your body and mind using tools of mindfulness\, conscious breathing\, and physical postures. \nThis workshop is appropriate for all levels of yoga and anyone wishing to learn more about the role of the nervous system and how to effectively control stress\, anxiety or negative emotions. A workbook will be included for all students and an online option will be available for anyone not able to attend. 3 CEU’s are offered for yoga teachers needing YACEP credits. \nDiane Saccone\, MS MT (ASACP) ERYT 500 spent the majority of her career in the field of Clinical Laboratory medicine changing careers after her move with her husband to Western North Carolina in 2005. SUMMARY:Partner Yoga & Easy Thai Massage w/ Leaflin Winecoff
DESCRIPTION:Partner yoga is a great way to connect with your asana practice in a new way\, while deepening connection with a loved one. Thai yoga massage (sometimes called “lazy person’s yoga”) is an ancient practice that can be described as a symbiotic healing dance\, where the benefits of yoga are experienced by both the giver and the receiver. \nWe use hands\, feet\, elbows\, knees\, rhythm and gravity to gently open the energetic channels of the body\, restoring ease and flow. This practice is done fully clothed on a mat on the floor\, and typically does not use oils. The aim of this workshop is to foster connection through curiosity\, compassion\, and communication\, and awaken our innate healing capabilities! \nWe’ll warm up with a few simple partner yoga practices before delving into some basic (but extremely effective!) Thai massage techniques. The basics of intelligent body mechanics\, giving and receiving\, and cultivation of loving kindness are paramount to to this practice\, and will be cultivated throughout. \nThis is not a training to become a professional bodyworker\, but is meant to provide participants with useful tools to be shared with friends and loved ones. The hope is that you’ll leave feeling great in your own body\, and inspired to help others feel great in theirs! *Please do come with a partner you feel comfortable practicing with. \nPlease note: This workshop is limited to 18 participants and you must come with a partner in order to participate. Both people need to register on Mindbody to reserve your space. \n*Modifications and variations will be shared for every technique taught as there is no one-size-fits-all massage. Please arrive in good health and ability to communicate your body’s needs. \n*You must be a Licensed Massage Therapist in the state of North Carolina to charge for bodywork. Please share this practice responsibly with those you trust. \nCost: $30 per personFinancial Aid Available- Please stop by the front desk\, call\, or email kelsey@ashevillecommunityyoga.org. \n*This workshop is currently full. \nPLEASE NOTE: We encourage pre-registration for all programming. Registering in advance guarantees your spot and helps the studio have adequate staffing. If fewer than 5 participants register the event may be canceled. \nRefund Policy: We understand that life happens and unforeseen circumstances come up. DESCRIPTION:Workshop: Resetting the Nervous System – A Holistic Approach to Ease and Relaxation \nIn today’s fast-paced world\, the human nervous system often struggles to keep up with the rapid pace of societal and technological changes. It’s important to recognize that while the world around us is evolving quickly\, our nervous systems simply cannot evolve at the same rate. This workshop is designed to help you slow down\, reconnect\, and find balance\, especially in moments of stress and overwhelm. \nThroughout this experiential workshop\, we will take a deep dive into several holistic practices to support the nervous system and bring you back into a state of calm. We will explore: \n\nThe Nervous System: Understanding how it works and how we can support it through mindful practices.\nThe Pancha Kosha Theory: A traditional model describing the five layers of our being – from the physical body to the innermost essence.\nPranayama (Breathing Techniques): Simple\, yet profound breathing practices that regulate the nervous system and promote relaxation.\nThe Vayus (Wind Energies): The five energetic forces that govern movement in the body and mind\, helping to restore balance and harmony.\nYin Yoga: A gentle\, restorative practice that targets the connective tissues\, allowing for deep release and relaxation.\nMeditation: Mindfulness and concentration practices that quiet the mind and center the self.\nYoga Nidra: A guided\, deep relaxation technique that promotes profound rest and rejuvenation.\nSound Healing: The use of sound vibrations to soothe the nervous system and promote healing at a cellular level.\n\nThrough these combined practices\, we’ll explore ways to reset the nervous system and return to a place of ease\, clarity\, and relaxation. My hope is that\, by the end of this workshop\, you will leave with a toolkit of accessible techniques to use in your everyday life. These tools will empower you to more effectively tune into your current state of being and understand what you truly need\, while extending more grace and compassion to yourself during moments of challenge and upset. \nJoin us for this integrative experience and gain the knowledge and practices to restore balance\, reconnect with your true self\, and move through life with greater ease and resilience. \n\nCost: $45 \n\nFinancial Aid Available- Please visit the front desk\, or email Kelsey@AshevilleCommunityYoga.org \n  \nClick Here to Register for In-Person Attendance \nClick Here to Register for Virtual Attendance\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPLEASE NOTE: We encourage pre-registration for all programming. In this class you can expect as few as 5-6 postures and the use of props such as bolsters\, blocks and blankets to hold and support the body. \nSound healing combines different healing sounds\, music\, and sound healing instruments that create resonant sounds and powerful vibrations\, promoting relaxation and energy flow through the body. This vibrational energy can improve our multidimensional well-being where we are able to deepen the connection to our mind\, body and breath. \nIf you are looking to relax\, let go\, restore and deepen your meditation and breath work practice this workshop is for you! \n\nCost: $30Financial Aid Available- Please stop by the desk or email Kelsey@AshevilleCommunityYoga.orgPLEASE NOTE: We encourage pre-registration for all programming. Registering in advance guarantees your spot and helps the studio have adequate staffing. SUMMARY:Ayurveda Foundations PLUS with Irmi Presutto
DESCRIPTION:Ayurveda is a traditional system of medicine that is often equated as the sister science to yoga. Its name comes from the Sanskrit words “ayur\,” meaning life\, and “veda\,” meaning knowledge or science. Ayurveda focuses on balancing the body’s energies (doshas) to maintain health and prevent illness. \n\nAccording to the Ancient Indian Science of Ayurveda\, the fundamental building blocks of life are the Five Great Elements: Earth – Water – Fire – Air – Ether/Space.  \n\n\nFrom them the three Doshas derive: Vata – Pitta – Kapha. \n\nElements\, Doshas\, food and all substances have Gunas (characteristics/qualities).\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis workshop will teach the basic ayurvedic principles for you to apply in your kitchen and home. Understanding the 5 great elements\, the 3 doshas and 20 gunas can improve indigestion such as constipation\, diarrhea\, flatulence and bloating. \n\nSleep patterns can improve\, and stress reduces\, to bring life back to a sustainable balance.  \n\nI am excited to share the beautiful and brilliant teachings of Ayurveda and Yoga with you.\nThis is not a yoga class\, but simple yoga moves might be included to relax and rest.\nCost: $30Financial Aid Available- Please stop by the front desk\, call\, or email kelsey@ashevillecommunityyoga.org.PLEASE NOTE: We encourage pre-registration for all programming.
SUMMARY:Collective Rest: Our Ancestral Rest Inheritance w/ Cassandra Lam
DESCRIPTION:Collective Rest is a judgment-free space where you can reflect on your relationship to rest (or lack thereof)\, discover what you need to feel safe enough to slow down\, and practice rest in community. \nThe restlessness in our lives\, minds\, and bodies began long before we were born. In this experiential workshop\, we’ll examine how our ancestral rest inheritance – what our ancestors\, family\, and society passed down – has influenced our beliefs about rest. \nThrough reflection exercises\, community shares\, and an introduction to the cultural erasure of rest\, participants will reframe what they’ve learned about rest to heal shame and guilt. We’ll close with a guided somatic rest practice to receive much-needed messages from our lineage – the people\, places\, and beings we come from and belong to – for ancestral strength\, guidance\, and protection. By rooting into these relationships\, we remember that we are never walking our path or doing our work alone. \nThis workshop is open to folks who struggle to rest or slow down and to anyone who wants to take better care of their physical\, mental\, emotional\, and spiritual wellbeing through rest – fidgety skeptics\, beginners\, or experienced meditators alike! \nPlease bring a journal or piece of paper\, pen\, and any items you’d like to infuse with the energy of our rest practice. \nFor more information on Collective Rest\, please see Cassandra’s website and bio here. \nCost: $30Financial Aid Available- Please stop by the front desk\, call\, or email kelsey@ashevillecommunityyoga.org.
