SUMMARY:Yogi Book Club: The Yamas & Niyamas by Deborah Adele
DESCRIPTION:Free Community Event!\n\n\nWill meet TWICE on this book! June 12th and June 26th. \nGrab your book and save the dates! Community Members are welcome to join even if they are unable to finish the book\, as there is much value to be gained from discussion.  \nPlease sign up in advance so we know to expect you! \n*ACY does not provide copies of the book. Please consider checking out from your local library\, or buying used. The audiobook is available as well. \nFrom GoodReads.com: \nThe first two limbs of the eight-fold path of yoga sutras—the basic text for classical yoga—are examined in this spiritual guide to the practice of yoga. Foundational to all yogic thought\, they are considered to be the guidelines to the yoga way of living that free individuals to take ownership of their lives\, direct them toward the fulfillment they seek\, and gain the skills to choose attitude\, thought\, and action. \n The first five guidelines are referred to as the yamas—a Sanskrit word that translates to “restraints”—and encompass nonviolence\, truthfulness\, not stealing\, nonexcess\, and nonpossessiveness. The last five are referred to as the niyamas\, or observances—purity\, contentment\, self-discipline\, self-study\, and surrender. A self-study section at the end of each chapter may also be used by instructors for group discussion. \n \nFor more information on the book club facilitator Stephen\, please see his teacher profile here!  He teaches donation-based Warm Vinyasa Flow Mondays 7:30am-8:30am\, Gentle Flow Mondays 12:15-1:15pm\, and Warm Vinyasa Flow Tuesdays 4:15pm-5:15pm. \nPlease create a Mindbody account for each participant if registering more than 1 person. If you have any questions regarding registration\, please email Kelsey at  kelsey@ashevillecommunityyoga.org \n  \nLate Policy: Doors will close at the workshop start time. We encourage you to arrive at least 15 minutes before the workshop start time to ensure there is ample time to park\, check in and settle in to your space. We do have a 10 minute grace period\, and we encourage you to call the studio to let us know if you are running behind. If you are later than 10 minutes after the start of the workshop\, there is a chance you will not be able to enter and no refund will be given. \n\nCapacity: Please note: Some workshops will fill to capacity of 28 students.

SUMMARY:Self Regulation: The Vagus Nerve w/ Diane Saccone
DESCRIPTION:The vagus is the tenth cranial nerve\, originating in the brain stem and traveling through the face\, neck\, lungs\, heart\, diaphragm\, and abdomen\, including the stomach\, spleen\, intestines\, colon\, liver\, and kidneys. The vagus nerve is intricately connected to mood\, immune response\, digestion\, and heart rate. \nWhen we engage with something greater than ourselves and feel a sense of connection to others and the outside world\, it activates the vagus nerve—which can help lower blood pressure\, inhibit the stress response and reduce inflammation. It can also increase heart rate variability (a biomarker of improved health)\, reduce pain and improve sleep and mood. \nThis workshop will help you become skilled at switching between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system with greater ease and choice and help you reclaim the balance of your body and mind using tools of mindfulness\, conscious breathing\, and physical postures. \nThis workshop is appropriate for all levels of yoga and anyone wishing to learn more about the role of the nervous system and how to effectively control stress\, anxiety or negative emotions. A workbook will be included for all students and an online option will be available for anyone not able to attend. 3 CEU’s are offered for yoga teachers needing YACEP credits. \nDiane Saccone\, MS MT (ASACP) ERYT 500 spent the majority of her career in the field of Clinical Laboratory medicine changing careers after her move with her husband to Western North Carolina in 2005. She also developed the active older adult program at the YMCA of Western North Carolina where she served as the Director of Healthy Aging Initiatives and traveled through the Y of the USA as a subject matter expert on aging; lecturing and teaching evidence based falls prevention programs across the country. SUMMARY:The Yoga of Sound w/ Mackenzie Alistar
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will explore various dimensions of Nada Yoga\, the Yoga of sound. \n\nAs Irena Sterna puts it\, “Nada Yoga\, translated as “Unity through Sound\,” is not just a practice but a journey into inner harmony\, where sound serves as a bridge to spiritual consciousness.”\n \nThis soundbath and meditation will welcome the Summer Solstice in community\, embracing the longest day of the year together.   \n\nWe will begin with 10-15 minutes of gentle movement to help us arrive in our bodies. From here we will enter into a vibratory journey (sound bath) into the realms of tibetan bowls\, crystal bowls\, handpan\, flutes\, didgeridoo\, harmonium\, guitar\, drum\, chimes\, bells\, rattles\, voice\, and other sound healing instruments. This will flow into a more participatory soundsploration in which we will unite our voices in toning and mantra. We will have slow time at the end to process.\n\n\n\nThis is a great opportunity to rest\, relax\, come back to yourself\, and meditate on the nature of the universe.  \n  \n\n\n\n\nFor more info on Mackenzie\, please see his teacher profile here. He teaches donation-based Hot Vinyasa Flow weekly on Mondays 7:45-8:45pm.\nCost: $30 \nFinancial Aid Available- Please stop by the front desk or email Kelsey@ashevillecommunityyoga.org \n \nPLEASE NOTE: We encourage pre-registration for all programming. SUMMARY:The Somatics of Conflict w/ Meredith Rosenbluth
DESCRIPTION:Please note: this is part of a 3-part series that focuses on healing through a Somatic Lens. Please see more about The Somatics of Trauma and The Somatics of Attachment for more. \n \n \nConflict is an inevitable part of the human experience—and for many of us\, it feels overwhelming\, threatening\, or unsafe. We ache to be seen\, heard\, and connected\, yet we avoid\, shut down\, or blow up in the face of relational strife. \nOur responses to conflict live inside our bodies. So does our capacity for repair. \nIn this experiential workshop\, we’ll explore conflict through a somatic lens\, focusing on the nervous system as the key to both understanding our conflict patterns and growing our ability to skillfully repair. \n  \n  \nThrough a combination of education\, self-inquiry\, group discussion\, and experiential somatic practice\, we will: \n\nUnderstand the basics of the nervous system and why a somatic approach to conflict is essential \nReflect on your personal survival instincts\, early patterning\, and individual responses to conflict \nLearn practical somatic techniques for recognizing activation\, pausing\, and working with different nervous system states (i.e.\, fight\, flight\, anxiety\, shutdown)\nLearn somatic tools and communication-based strategies that support more effective self-regulation and relational repair \n\n \nBy the end of this workshop\, you will: \n\nHave a foundational understanding of the nervous system and its relationship with conflict \nRecognize your own default conflict patterns (e.g.\, avoidance\, reactivity\, shutdown) \nKnow simple\, effective somatic tools for nervous system regulation \nGain language to communicate internal experiences during conflict (e.g.\, naming feelings and sensations) \nUnderstand the role of projection\, triggers\, and personal responsibility in relational dynamics \nLearn foundational principles of rupture and repair\, including how to move toward reconnection\nExperience how vulnerability and self-attunement support intimacy and safety in relationships. \n\n \nUltimately\, you will leave with practical tools\, increased self-awareness\, and a deeper understanding of how to support yourself through conflict with greater presence\, clarity\, and care. \n \n \n \nA testimonial from Meredith’s February 2026 workshop\, The Somatics of Trauma: “Meredith really made this class so amazing. I did not know exactly what to expect going in\, but the amount of information that was given was so digestible. Meredith presented it in a way that was easy to understand and apply to my own life. I really enjoyed that she presented agreements at the beginning of class that set the tone for listening and sharing so that everyone felt comfortable. I left the class feeling like I could move forward with a new confidence in myself and in my body.” \n \nThis workshop is facilitated by somatic emotional health coach and educator\, Meredith Rosenbluth. Offering 1:1 coaching\, breathwork\, and group programs\, Meredith is devoted to cultivating attuned\, grounded\, vulnerable\, and joyful spaces to foster meaningful connection and personal transformation. All of you is welcome\, exactly as you are in any given moment\, always. You can learn more about Meredith’s private practice here. \nFor more information on Meredith\, please see her teacher profile here! Meredith teaches a weekly donation-based Meditation on Wednesdays from 1:15pm-1:45pm. \nCost: $25Financial Aid Available- Please stop by the front desk\, call\, or email kelsey@ashevillecommunityyoga.org. \n \n \nPLEASE NOTE: We encourage pre-registration for all programming. Registering in advance guarantees your spot and helps the studio have adequate staffing. If fewer than 5 participants register the event may be canceled. \nRefund Policy: We understand that life happens and unforeseen circumstances come up. SUMMARY:The Somatics of Trauma w/ Meredith Rosenbluth
DESCRIPTION:Please note: this is part of a 3-part series that focuses on healing through a Somatic Lens. Please see more about The Somatics of Conflict and The Somatics of Attachment for more. \n \n \nThe Somatics of Trauma is a compassionate\, educational\, and experiential workshop designed to help you understand trauma through the lens of the body—both in impact and in healing. We’ll explore the ways our bodies are wired to protect us; what trauma is and why it can lock the protective instinct on overdrive; and how to somatically support ourselves in finding safety and ease\, both during activation and as a baseline in our lives. \nThrough lecture\, personal reflection\, group discussion\, and gentle movement practices\, this workshop invites a deeper sense of self-understanding and provides practical tools to bolster nervous system regulation and resilience. \n  \n \nIn this workshop\, we will cover: \n\nNervous System Fundamentals: We will learn about the overall functions of the nervous system; our innate protective responses (fight\, flight\, freeze\, fawn); and spend time identifying your personal nervous system blueprint \nUnderstanding Trauma: We will explore the definition of trauma; types of trauma (acute vs. complex); and how trauma imprints and echoes in the body \nThe Goal of Somatic Healing: We will discuss why working with the body is essential in trauma healing; what the aims of trauma healing work are; and myths we are often fed about it \nSomatic Regulation Practices: In the final hour of the workshop\, we will practice accessible\, body-based tools to help calm the nervous system\, restore balance when dysregulated\, and cultivate a greater sense of safety in daily life\n\n \n \nBy the end of this workshop\, you will: \n\nUnderstand the functions and operations of the nervous system\nDevelop awareness of what your primary protective nervous system responses are; when they are echoes of trauma; and how to be with them rather than act from them\nCultivate greater tenderness towards your body’s responses and the wisdom inherent in them\nExamine and understand trauma\, its causes\, and its somatic impacts from a compassionate and objective lens\nLearn simple movement practices to support self-regulation and emotional balance in everyday life\nLeave with a sense of empowerment\, clarity\, and a renewed connection to your body’s innate capacity for healing\n\n \nAs humans\, we are wired for connection; healing happens interpersonally. This workshop is an invitation to settle\, to learn\, to be curious\, to feel\, to move\, to connect\, to reflect\, to integrate\, and to be. \nCost: $45Financial Aid Available- Please stop by the front desk\, call\, or email kelsey@ashevillecommunityyoga.org. \n \n \nPLEASE NOTE: We encourage pre-registration for all programming. SUMMARY:The Somatics of Attachment w/ Meredith Rosenbluth
DESCRIPTION:Please note: this is part of a 3-part series that focuses on healing through a Somatic Lens. Please see more about The  The Somatics of Conflict and Somatics of Trauma for more. \n \n \n \nAttachment patterns shape our closest relationships—how comfortable we are with intimacy\, with space\, and with ourselves. In this experiential workshop\, we will explore attachment theory through a somatic (body-based) lens. We will learn how attachment patterns form\, how they express through our nervous systems\, and how somatic work holds the key to healing our attachment wounds. \nThrough interactive lecture\, guided somatic practices\, journaling\, and group discussion\, you’ll begin to understand your attachment patterns more fully and develop the tools to create greater security within yourself—and by extension\, within all of your relationships. \nThis workshop is ideal for anyone curious about their relational patterns or aware they have some healing to do; invested in developing healthier relationships; seeking deeper self-understanding; and/or looking for tools to support their attachment security in a sustainable and effective way. \n \n \n \n \nThrough this workshop\, you will gain: \n\nA working knowledge of how attachment patterns develop and function\nThe ability to identify secure\, anxious\, disorganized\, and avoidant attachment responses/behaviors in yourself\nA foundational understanding of the nervous system’s role in attachment and healing\nEasily applicable tools to navigate moments in relationship when you and/or your partner are triggered\nSomatic practices to regulate the nervous system and increase inner safety\, both as a baseline and when attachment wounds flare\nGreater self-awareness\, self-compassion\, and language to understand your personal relational dynamics\nInitial steps toward cultivating a more secure attachment within yourself\n\n \n \nWe cannot change what we are not willing to see\, and we cannot outsource our healing. \n \n  \n \n \nA testimonial from Meredith’s February 2026 workshop\, The Somatics of Trauma: “Meredith really made this class so amazing. SUMMARY:Tennis Ball Therapy (In-person & Virtual) w/ Diane Saccone
DESCRIPTION:Tennis ball therapy uses tennis balls to release movement restrictions\, restore mobility\, and reduce pain by targeting the connective tissue network\, rather than muscles alone\, making it an affordable and effective tool for muscle care. \nKey benefits include: -Pain relief as pressure from the tennis ball stimulates the release of endorphins\, the body’s natural painkillers\, which help block pain signals -Improved flexibility\, by reducing muscle tightness promoting a better range of motion-Enhanced circulation through stimulating blood flow\, bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the targeted muscles. This improved circulation aids in the removal of metabolic waste products\, reducing inflammation and promoting faster muscle recovery-Muscle relaxation & Reduces stress: The gentle pressure and stimulation of the skin promote relaxation and reduce stress levels\, contributing to overall well-being. \nSelf-massage with tennis balls is greatly enhanced by stretching\, which further increases circulation and re-educates the muscles to rest for a longer length. Stretching allows muscles to be softer\, more fluid and longer in their resting state. Combining asana with self-massage is particularly useful for those of us who have muscles that for various reasons (injury\, overuse\, or years of inactivity) resist stretching. \nIn this workshop\, we will use tennis ball therapy to unlock the feet and gluteals\, lengthen the hamstrings and adductors\, open and relax the shoulders\, arms hands and neck to the muscles along the spine which will restore balance to the body and the mind through the action of prana. We will begin at the bottom of the body and work our way up to the head and then finish our time together in a relaxing 10 minute savasana. This practice is safe for all age levels and abilities. \nAn e-workbook with the exercises we will be doing will be provided prior to the workshop. Bring two tennis balls and a sock to hold the tennis balls to the workshop. 5 CEU’s will be offered to yoga teachers and qualifying health practitioners. \n \nDiane Saccone\, MS MT (ASACP) ERYT 500 spent the majority of her career in the field of Clinical Laboratory medicine changing careers after her move with her husband to Western North Carolina in 2005. She also developed the active older adult program at the YMCA of Western North Carolina where she served as the Director of Healthy Aging Initiatives and traveled through the Y of the USA as a subject matter expert on aging; lecturing and teaching evidence based falls prevention programs across the country. SUMMARY:Vinyasa & Sound Bath to Embrace the Equinox w/ Timothy Burgin
DESCRIPTION:The equinox marks a place of balance and a transition point. This shift from summer to autumn  is a natural time to align your practice with the changing rhythms of the earth\, to release excess of summer and prepare the body and mind for the quieter months ahead. \nWe will use asana and pranayama to support this shift by focusing on stability\, gratitude\, letting go and renewal. A hour long sound bath will follow the vinyasa sequence to further ground\, nourish\, calm\, and harmonize your body\, heart\, and mind. Sound baths promote deep release and relaxation\, and entrain our brainwaves to shift into a dreamlike state. \nLet yourself surrender and be bathed by the soothing sound waves of singing bowls\, gongs\, rainsticks\, tongue drums\, chimes\, and other sound healing instruments. \nTimothy teaches a donation-based weekly Vinyasa Flow on Sundays from 10:30am-11:30am. For more information on Timothy\, please see his teacher profile here! \nCost: $30Financial Aid Available- Please stop by the front desk\, call\, or email kelsey@ashevillecommunityyoga.org. \n \n \nPLEASE NOTE: We encourage pre-registration for all programming.
