SUMMARY:Kirtan w/ Mantra Mandala
DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 5:30pm\, Kirtan is 6-7:30pm. Please arrive early for ample time to park and settle in.\nWhat is kirtan? \nDerived from a Sanskrit root meaning to call\, recite\, praise\, or glorify\, put simply\, kirtan is the act of praising and glorifying some form of divinity. While such glorification can be expressed in a variety of ways\, including through poetry\, drama\, dance\, or any form of oral recitation\, kirtan\, in its most well-known form\, is the call and response singing of a Sanskrit mantra. Tap into the spiritual energy of bhakti yoga\, the yoga of love and devotion\, as you sing your way to joy and peace. \nMantra Mandala: \nMantra Mandala is a kirtan band based in Asheville\, NC. They weave melody\, rhythm\, and harmony to create an immersive sound that invites listeners into a journey of meditative bliss and devotion. \nMantra Mandala will feature Jeremy Staum (vocals\, harmonium)\, Nina Kawar (vocals\, percussion)\, Mackenzie Wilkins (vocals\, drums) and Vishudda Regner (drums\, kartals). \nThe band’s name\, Mantra Mandala\, represents the intention behind their music. Mantra and mandala are both meditation tools. Mantra is the repetition of sacred sounds. Mandala is a geometric design that represents the wholeness of the Self. The band’s music is like a mandala formed of mantras\, transporting listeners into the state of connectedness that is yoga. \nDoors open at 5:30pm\, Kirtan is 6-7:30pm. Please arrive early for ample time to park and settle in.\nSliding Scale: $10- $30 \nPlease use the drop down menu to pay what you can to support this local band!\nNo one turned away due to lack of funds.  \n\n \nPLEASE NOTE: We encourage pre-registration for all programming. SUMMARY:Quintessential Pranayama w/ Leaflin Winecoff
DESCRIPTION:This is a workshop about pranayama\, or breath control\, the 4th limb of yoga as described by Patanjali. \nBreath can be seen as a foundational medicine\, and is truly the gateway between the unconscious and the conscious; the body and the spirit. Pranayama practices have huge potential to increase the quality of our daily lives in profound ways\, and are a great way to prepare the body and mind for deeper meditation (the 7th of Patanjali’s limbs!). \nIn these 90 minutes\, we will cover 5 essential types of breath practices that correlate with different archetypal energies: Calming\, Balancing\, Energizing\, Clearing\, and Attuning. We will spend plenty of time gaining understanding of each breath\, as well as have an opportunity to meditate silently after each exercise in order to experience and absorb the unique effects of each practice. \nYou will leave with a deeper understanding of some classic and esoteric breath practices\, and a practical pranayama toolkit that you can take with you everywhere you go! \nLeaflin teaches a weekly donation-based Gentle Flow Wednesday evenings from 6:15-7:15pm. To learn more about her\, please see her teacher profile here! \n  \n \nCost: $25 per personFinancial Aid Available- Please stop by the front desk\, call\, or email kelsey@ashevillecommunityyoga.org. \nPLEASE NOTE: We encourage pre-registration for all programming. Registering in advance guarantees your spot and helps the studio have adequate staffing. If fewer than 5 participants register the event may be canceled. \nRefund Policy: We understand that life happens and unforeseen circumstances come up. SUMMARY:Build your Sadhana w/ Drew JC
DESCRIPTION:Sadhana is our daily spiritual/wellbeing practice.\n\n\nThe essence of this workshop is to fortify you with an ‘every day’ home practice combining the fundamentals of kundalini yoga and meditation:  pranayama techniques (breath work)\, the bandhas ( body locks)\, spinal alignment\, mudras and mantra. Come explore the art of discipline and leave with an “every day” tool to start your day.  \n\nKundalini yoga\, unlike strictly asana practices\, focuses on harmonizing the nervous system with the endocrine system.  When activated and aligned\, these two systems give rise to our fully actualized self. A complete Kundalini practice includes a Kriya (a set of exercises with an intended result)\, breath\, meditation and mantra.  \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this workshop we will:\n\n\nCover a brief history of kundalini yoga:  its roots\, how it spread around the world\, its utility as a daily maintenance practice for body\, mind and spirit and then dive deeper into the art of the practice\nExplore the nuances of body locks/the bandhas (Maha bandha and its 3 components)\nDiscuss the importance of proper spinal alignment\nLearn fundamental tools for effective pranayama\nUnderstand the benefits of opening the throat chakra through chanting\nTake a deep dive into various Kriyas: Sat Kriya\, stretch pose\, kriya for the adrenals and kidneys as well as Nabhi Kriya\n\n\nHow the workshop will flow: \n\nAn initial information session on the above topics\nExecute a complete practice together including kriya and a meditation with interspersed reminders of proper practice\nAmple time for Questions and Answers\n\n\n\n\nThis workshop is for everyone!  As a novice\, it will dramatically shorten your learning curve through highlighting some of the fundamentals of the practice of kundalini yoga. As a seasoned practitioner\, it will strengthen your practice through thoughtful cues and deeper examinations of the how and why of each kriya we practice. \n\n\n\n\nDrew JC will offer depth from his 9 years teaching experience and 15 years of practice. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYou will leave this workshop with a home practice.\n\n\n  \nFor more information on Drew JC\, please see his teacher profile here!  \nCost: $30Financial Aid Available- Please stop by the front desk\, call\, or email kelsey@ashevillecommunityyoga.org. \n \n \nPLEASE NOTE: We encourage pre-registration for all programming. SUMMARY:Breathwork for Deep Insight and Emotional Release w/ Andrew Greene
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\nWhile sometimes intense\, breathwork is an incredibly safe and simple modality. All that is required is a little bit of focus and effort to get beyond your normal waking state. \nThis workshop will help you access the deep intelligence within your body that always knows exactly what you need. You may experience powerful emotions\, flashes of creativity\, or even find that your body has released long-held aches and pains. \nThe workshop will begin with a brief grounding practice\, and end with an integration circle. A carefully curated playlist will guide you through the breathwork portion. \nEveryone will be provided with a yoga mat\, blankets\, and an eye covering so that their experience can be as internal and private as possible. If you would prefer to bring your own eye-mask\, please do. \nThe only necessary preparation is to abstain from eating a heavy meal at least 3 hours before the event. A *light* lunch or small snack at least an hour beforehand is okay. This is because deep breathwork will cause a lot of movement in your internal organs\, and a full stomach could turn into an upset stomach. You will be laying down the entire time. \nFor more information on Andrew\, please see his teacher profile here!  \nCost: $30 \n\nFinancial Aid Available- Please stop by the front desk or email Kelsey@ashevillecommunityyoga.org \n \nPLEASE NOTE: We encourage pre-registration for all programming. The audiobook is available as well. \nFrom GoodReads.com: \n“This is your country\, this is your world\, this is your body\, and you must find some way to live within the all of it.” \n \nIn a profound work that pivots from the biggest questions about American history and ideals to the most intimate concerns of a father for his son\, Ta-Nehisi Coates offers a powerful new framework for understanding our nation’s history and current crisis. Americans have built an empire on the idea of “race\,” a falsehood that damages us all but falls most heavily on the bodies of black women and men—bodies exploited through slavery and segregation\, and\, today\, threatened\, locked up\, and murdered out of all proportion. What is it like to inhabit a black body and find a way to live within it? And how can we all honestly reckon with this fraught history and free ourselves from its burden? \n \nBetween the World and Meis Ta-Nehisi Coates’s attempt to answer these questions in a letter to his adolescent son. Coates shares with his son—and readers—the story of his awakening to the truth about his place in the world through a series of revelatory experiences\, from Howard University to Civil War battlefields\, from the South Side of Chicago to Paris\, from his childhood home to the living rooms of mothers whose children’s lives were taken as American plunder. Beautifully woven from personal narrative\, reimagined history\, and fresh\, emotionally charged reportage\,Between the World and Meclearly illuminates the past\, bracingly confronts our present\, and offers a transcendent vision for a way forward. \n \nFor more information on Stephen\, please see his teacher profile here! \nPlease create a Mindbody account for each participant if registering more than 1 person. SUMMARY:Integrative Breathwork for Self-Discovery with Margaret Kirschner & Eddie LeShure
DESCRIPTION:ACY will provide eye-coverings for this workshop\, but please bring your own if you would prefer. \nPlease refrain from eating 1-2 hours before practicing intense breathwork. \nIntegrative Breathwork is a powerful adjunct to meditation and yoga\, effective for working with addiction\, trauma\, depression\, and anxiety. The process is very safe and simple\, combining accelerated breathing with evocative music in an eyes closed setting. You remain in complete control of your own process. \nIntegrative Breathwork Sessions • Expand your mind • Receive inner guidance • Create and strengthen new neural pathways \nEvocative music and dynamic breathing open the door to insights and inner guidance • Learn to trust yourself • Know that your answers are within • Gain confidence\, feel lighter • Loosen the negative grip of past trauma \nDynamic Breathing\, Expanded Mind Taking fuller breaths more rapidly\, accompanied by carefully selected music that guides your experience\, can nudge you into a non-ordinary state of consciousness. Your brain’s typical default mode relaxes. Most of us have an overactive\, self-critical “monkey mind\,” which slips out of the way as we continue to breathe faster\, more deeply\, and continuously. Soon\, inner wisdom reveals important insights which can shift a dysfunctional habitual thinking pattern\, providing a new way to look at ourselves and our relationship to the events of our life. \nSoftens the Grip of Past Conditioning For many people\, noticing\, accepting\, and expressing authentic feelings is a learned skill that requires practice. A common phrase is “What you resist persists.” it is natural to resist what is uncomfortable and lean\, instead\, towards avoiding that discomfort by suppressing emotions and stifling the ones that we perceive are not acceptable\, such as anger or sadness\, perhaps. Integrative breathwork recognizes the pervasive impact of personal and collective trauma and responds with tools that untangle it while also intending to avoid re-traumatization. It is an efficient way to clear conditioned resistance. \nIf you are pregnant\, have cardiovascular concerns\, severe hypertension (untreated high blood pressure)\, severe mental illness\, epilepsy or have had recent surgery\, infection\, illness or fever\, please do not sign up.  If you have asthma\, please bring your inhaler with you. \n \nCost: $30Financial Aid Available- Please stop by the front desk\, call\, or email kelsey@ashevillecommunityyoga.org. \nMargaret Kirschner is a Certified Trauma-Sensitive Yoga Therapist (E-RYT 500 C-IAYT)\, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC)\, ACISTE Certified Mental Health Professional (ACMHP)\, Peer Support Specialist (CPSS)\, Breathwork Facilitator and Birth Doula. Margaret safely supports individuals in learning to listen to and trust their bodies with an attitude of curiosity and compassion. Says Margaret\, “My greatest joy is witnessing people reclaiming their lives through the simple and profound practices of yoga\, breathwork\, and mindfulness.” For more information on Margaret\, please see her teacher profile here! \nEddie LeShure is a Certified Yoga Instructor (RYT 200)\, Meditation Teacher\, Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC)\, Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS)\, Spiritual Emergence Coach ® (IMHU)\,and Breathwork Facilitator. Eddie’s personal journey took him deep into the throes of active addiction and incarceration on a drug arrest. His two years behind bars were mostly spent in the notorious Attica Prison where he survived a rebellion in 1971 that killed 43 inmates and employees. As a survivor of extreme trauma\, his personal healing and how he works with others has always been guided by deep understanding and compassion. As co-owner of A Mindful Emergence LLC\, he provides preparation\, facilitation and integration for those intentionally using plant medicines and other psychedelics. His primary passion is providing trauma-sensitive\, somatic mindfulness and self-compassion practices to support us effectively embracing our full range of thoughts\, feelings and physical sensations. SUMMARY:Bodywork for the People! Easy Thai Yoga Bodywork w/ Leaflin Winecoff
DESCRIPTION:Thai yoga massage (sometimes called “lazy person’s yoga”) is an ancient practice that can be described as a symbiotic healing dance\, where the benefits of yoga are experienced by both the giver and the receiver. \nWe use hands\, feet\, elbows\, knees\, rhythm and gravity to gently open the energetic channels of the body\, restoring ease and flow. This practice is done fully clothed on a mat on the floor\, and typically does not use oils.
