SUMMARY:How To Build A Home Practice w/ Dana Maria
DESCRIPTION:In this 2 hour all levels workshop we will learn some  basic building blocks that will  aid in putting together your own sequences and approach your home practice with confidence. \n\n\nEstablishing an independent home practice is a rite of passage for yoga practitioners. SUMMARY:Partner Yoga & Easy Thai Massage w/ Leaflin Winecoff
DESCRIPTION:Partner yoga is a great way to connect with your asana practice in a new way\, while deepening connection with a loved one. Thai yoga massage (sometimes called “lazy person’s yoga”) is an ancient practice that can be described as a symbiotic healing dance\, where the benefits of yoga are experienced by both the giver and the receiver. \nWe use hands\, feet\, elbows\, knees\, rhythm and gravity to gently open the energetic channels of the body\, restoring ease and flow. This practice is done fully clothed on a mat on the floor\, and typically does not use oils. The aim of this workshop is to foster connection through curiosity\, compassion\, and communication\, and awaken our innate healing capabilities! \nWe’ll warm up with a few simple partner yoga practices before delving into some basic (but extremely effective!) Thai massage techniques. The basics of intelligent body mechanics\, giving and receiving\, and cultivation of loving kindness are paramount to to this practice\, and will be cultivated throughout. \nThis is not a training to become a professional bodyworker\, but is meant to provide participants with useful tools to be shared with friends and loved ones. The hope is that you’ll leave feeling great in your own body\, and inspired to help others feel great in theirs! *Please do come with a partner you feel comfortable practicing with. \nPlease note: This workshop is limited to 18 participants and you must come with a partner in order to participate. Both people need to register on Mindbody to reserve your space. \n*Modifications and variations will be shared for every technique taught as there is no one-size-fits-all massage. Please arrive in good health and ability to communicate your body’s needs. \n*You must be a Licensed Massage Therapist in the state of North Carolina to charge for bodywork. Please share this practice responsibly with those you trust. \nCost: $30 per personFinancial Aid Available- Please stop by the front desk\, call\, or email kelsey@ashevillecommunityyoga.org. \n*This workshop is currently full. \nPLEASE NOTE: We encourage pre-registration for all programming. Registering in advance guarantees your spot and helps the studio have adequate staffing. If fewer than 5 participants register the event may be canceled. \nRefund Policy: We understand that life happens and unforeseen circumstances come up. If life offers up an unexpected event and you need to withdraw from the workshop:  \n\nA full refund will be issued if you need to withdraw 4+ days before the workshop.\n\nIf you need to withdraw within 3 days or fewer\, no refund is provided.  \n\n\nPlease create a Mindbody account for each participant if registering more than 1 person. SUMMARY:Self Regulation: The Vagus Nerve w/ Diane Saccone (In-Person and Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:The vagus is the tenth cranial nerve\, originating in the brain stem and traveling through the face\, neck\, lungs\, heart\, diaphragm\, and abdomen\, including the stomach\, spleen\, intestines\, colon\, liver\, and kidneys. The vagus nerve is intricately connected to mood\, immune response\, digestion\, and heart rate. \nWhen we engage with something greater than ourselves and feel a sense of connection to others and the outside world\, it activates the vagus nerve—which can help lower blood pressure\, inhibit the stress response and reduce inflammation. It can also increase heart rate variability (a biomarker of improved health)\, reduce pain and improve sleep and mood. \nThis workshop will help you become skilled at switching between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system with greater ease and choice and help you reclaim the balance of your body and mind using tools of mindfulness\, conscious breathing\, and physical postures. \nThis workshop is appropriate for all levels of yoga and anyone wishing to learn more about the role of the nervous system and how to effectively control stress\, anxiety or negative emotions. A workbook will be included for all students and an online option will be available for anyone not able to attend. 3 CEU’s are offered for yoga teachers needing YACEP credits. \nDiane Saccone\, MS MT (ASACP) ERYT 500 spent the majority of her career in the field of Clinical Laboratory medicine changing careers after her move with her husband to Western North Carolina in 2005. She also developed the active older adult program at the YMCA of Western North Carolina where she served as the Director of Healthy Aging Initiatives and traveled through the Y of the USA as a subject matter expert on aging; lecturing and teaching evidence based falls prevention programs across the country.\nCost: $45\nFinancial Aid Available- Please stop by the front desk or email Kelsey@AshevilleCommunityYoga.org\n3 YACEP CEU’s available to Yoga Instructors through this course.
