SUMMARY:Partner Yoga & Thai Bodywork w/ Leaflin Winecoff
DESCRIPTION:Partner yoga is a great way to connect with your asana practice in a new way\, while deepening connection with a loved one. \nThai yoga massage (sometimes called “lazy person’s yoga”) is an ancient practice that can be described as a symbiotic healing dance\, where the benefits of yoga are experienced by both the giver and the receiver. We use hands\, feet\, elbows\, knees\, rhythm and gravity to gently open the energetic channels of the body\, restoring ease and flow. This practice is done fully clothed on a mat on the floor\, and typically does not use oils. \nThe aim of this workshop is to foster connection through curiosity\, compassion\, and communication\, and awaken our innate healing capabilities! We’ll warm up with a few simple partner yoga practices before delving into some basic (but extremely effective!) Thai -inspired massage techniques. \nThe basics of intelligent body mechanics\, giving and receiving\, and cultivation of loving kindness are paramount to to this practice\, and will be cultivated throughout. This is not a training to become a professional bodyworker\, but is meant to provide participants with useful tools to be shared with friends and loved ones. The hope is that you’ll leave feeling great in your own body\, and inspired to help others feel great in theirs! *Please do come with a partner you feel comfortable practicing with. \nPlease note: This workshop is limited to 20 participants and you must come with a partner in order to participate. Both people need to register on Mindbody to reserve your space! \n*Modifications and variations will be shared for every technique taught as there is no one-size-fits-all massage. Please arrive in good health and ability to communicate your body’s needs. \n*You must be a Licensed Massage Therapist in the state of North Carolina to charge for bodywork. Please share this practice responsibly with those you trust. \nFor more information on Leaflin\, please see her teacher profile here. She teaches weekly donation-based Gentle Flow on Wednesdays 6:15pm-7:15pm. \n \nCost: $30 per personFinancial Aid Available- Please stop by the front desk\, call\, or email kelsey@ashevillecommunityyoga.org. \nPLEASE NOTE: We encourage pre-registration for all programming. SUMMARY:Savasana: The Art to Complete Relaxation w/ Diane Saccone
DESCRIPTION:Because we normally move our bodies around\, the movements of the mind are not so apparent. But when we learn to hold the pose and remain still\, suddenly\, we notice clearly how agitated the mind is. \nSavasana\, or basic relaxation pose\, is one of the most important and ancient poses in yoga. The practice of savasana or corpse pose\, is meditative. It can be the doorway to deeper states of meditation and gives the student the most important gift that can be given. This gift is called disidentification. \nIn Chapter I of the Yoga Sutras\, Patanjali discusses the false identification of thoughts and Self. He teaches that this false identification is at the root of all misery. He further teaches that yoga practices are about dissolving this false identification. The great gift of savasana is that the student can begin to separate from his/her thoughts. As one moves more deeply through relaxation\, one begins to enter another state in which thought is experienced as a surface phenomenon. Then\, one can begin to experience a little space between the thought and what is perceived as the Self. \nOne teacher has said\, “The problem with our thoughts is that we believe them.” The problem with believing our thoughts is that we then act from them in a way that can cause suffering in ourselves and others. When a little space is experienced between one’s thoughts and the consciousness\, which is the background for thought\, then thought does not have the same power. Thus\, with this dis-identification comes choice. When one dis-identifies with the thought\, one can choose to act from that thought or not; it no longer has as much power to control. When one can act from choice\, this leads to freedom. The gift of beginning to understand the process of dis-identification is arguably the most powerful gift one can receive. \nStaying still is a powerful practice. When one learns to hold savasana\, one learns to let the stillness of the body become a backdrop for the constant movement of the mind. This art of consciously staying still begins to teach the art of meditation. Join us and dedicate yourself to savasana and learning how to just be. This class will leave you feeling rejuvenated\, de-stressed and mentally clear. \nDiane Saccone\, MS MT (ASACP) ERYT 500 spent the majority of her career in the field of Clinical Laboratory medicine changing careers after her move with her husband to Western North Carolina in 2005. She also developed the active older adult program at the YMCA of Western North Carolina where she served as the Director of Healthy Aging Initiatives and traveled through the Y of the USA as a subject matter expert on aging; lecturing and teaching evidence based falls prevention programs across the country. SUMMARY:The Somatics of Trauma w/ Meredith Rosenbluth
DESCRIPTION:The Somatics of Trauma is a compassionate\, educational\, and experiential workshop designed to help you understand trauma through the lens of the body—both in impact and in healing. \nWe’ll explore the ways our bodies are wired to protect us; what trauma is and why it can lock the protective instinct on overdrive; and how to somatically support ourselves in finding safety and ease\, both during activation and as a baseline in our lives. Through lecture\, personal reflection\, group discussion\, and gentle movement practices\, this workshop invites a deeper sense of self-understanding and provides practical tools to bolster nervous system regulation and resilience. \nIn this workshop\, we will learn: \n\nThe overall functions of the nervous system\nThe types of protective responses and how to identify them within yourself\nThe definition of trauma and types of trauma (acute vs. complex)\nWhy working with the body is essential in trauma healing\nWhat the aims of trauma healing work actually are and myths we are often fed about it\nIn the final hour of the workshop\, we will practice accessible\, body-based tools to help calm the nervous system\, restore balance when dysregulated\, and cultivate a greater sense of safety in daily life\n\n\nBy the end of this workshop\, you will: \n\nUnderstand the functions and operations of the nervous system\nExamine and understand trauma\, its causes\, and its somatic impacts from a compassionate and objective lens\nDevelop awareness of your primary protective nervous system responses; when they are echoes of trauma; and how to be with them rather than act from them\nCultivate greater tenderness towards your body’s responses and the wisdom inherent in them\nLearn simple movement practices to support self-regulation and emotional balance in everyday life\nLeave with a sense of empowerment\, clarity\, and a renewed connection to your body’s innate capacity for healing \n\nAs humans\, we are wired for connection; healing happens interpersonally. This workshop is an invitation to settle\, to learn\, to be curious\, to feel\, to move\, to connect\, to reflect\, to integrate\, and to be. \nMeredith Rosenbluth is a somatic emotional health coach and educator. She has a certificate in Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy from The Embody Lab\, is a certified breathwork facilitator\, and specializes in working with teens and highly sensitive people.
