Mantra, मन्त्र , translates from the Sanskrit root ‘man/manas’ (the thinking mind) and ‘tra/trava’ (to liberate, to transcend).
Mantra literally means liberation of the mind.
It is said that the sacred mantric sounds fell from the Divine source, were heard by the Rishis who then formulated them into the cohesive body of mantras that are still widely used today, forming an unbroken chain of sound energy. Each mantra is precisely, sacredly, and exquisitely formed to create powerful vibrations that connect us back to our true, Divine nature.
Chanting runs through every form of yoga. It helps to regulate our breathing, quiet the mind, open the heart, connect us to universal energy, and bring about deep healing. Mantras are one of the most powerful tools we have for calming the mind and working with thought patterns as it helps us to create new neural pathways.

In this workshop we will explore the nuances of sound in yoga, learn different ways to incorporate mantra, and use mantra as a form of meditation, to soothe the mind and connect us back to our true Selves. By understanding the use of mantras participants will gain a better perspective of the application of sacred sound in their own personal Yoga sadhana (practice).
