This session will begin with a guided group reflection to examine the rhythms of our daily lives and how it affects our physical, mental, and emotional health. Then, we’ll dig into introductory rest concepts that can help you take the next step in your rest journey.Â
We’ll close with a juicy guided rest practice that will transport you towards that dreamy space between being fully awake and fully asleep where cellular-level restoration happens. You will walk away feeling refreshed, present, and grounded — more connected to yourself and to others.
This is a trauma-informed space, which means that everything is optional. This session will offer multiple modes of participation so you’re encouraged to engage in any way that feels good for you. This includes joining with video and microphone off to conserve your energy.
WHO THIS IS FOR: Anyone who wants to take better care of their physical, mental, and emotional health through rest – fidgety skeptics, beginners, or experienced meditators alike!
The practice has been intentionally designed to offer relief to those of us experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, fatigue, or insomnia. It is accessible to anyone who can sit or lie down.Â
HOW TO PREPARE:
- Try to join us 10-15 mins early if you can so that you can settle into the space without feeling rushed.
- Bring a bottle of water, a journal, and something to write with.Â
- Wear loose-fitting, comfy clothes: sweatpants, socks, pajamas, etc.
ABOUT YOUR FACILITATOR: Cassandra Lam (she/her) is a Vietnamese-American somatic healing facilitator guiding tired and trauma-impacted organizations, communities, and individuals to feel safe enough to rest. She created Collective Rest in March 2021 to share healing practices that can help us address our collective suffering, exhaustion, and grief. Her mission is to uplift rest as a necessary and powerful modality for collective healing and social change.
As a neurodivergent daughter of refugees living with complex PTSD, chronic pain, and invisible disabilities, Cassandra is passionate about creating community care spaces where healing, empowerment, and liberation are practiced as culture. Born and raised in the San Gabriel Valley of Southern California, she now lives on the unceded lands of the Cherokee (Asheville, NC) near the Blue Ridge Mountains with her partner and their mischievous kittens, Zora and Zubie.
