Building a Chair Yoga Home Practice (In-Person & Virtual) w/ Diane Saccone

Chair yoga is derived from traditional yoga. Most yoga poses can be replicated as seated yoga poses and stretches using a chair making yoga suitable and enjoyable for individuals at all levels of experience and ages. In this workshop, we will learn poses that can be used to build strength and muscle mass, prepare for or pre or post-surgical procedure recovery, reduce stress, and improve mobility and balance in a safe and supported setting.

Chair yoga is a modified form of yoga that allows you to practice traditional yoga poses while sitting on or standing with the support of a chair. These modifications make yoga more accessible and gentler for people with limited mobility or balance.

Like traditional yoga, chair yoga helps build flexibility, strength, and balance. And it can also promote relaxation through breath. Almost any type of yoga pose from twists to backbends can be modified using a chair that allows people of all abilities to reap the benefits of yoga anywhere there is an available chair.

In this workshop we will explore:
•How chair yoga can serve as a form of low-impact exercise which is easier on the body especially if you have age-related changes in your joints and muscles
•The benefits of boosting muscle strength
•How chair yoga improves balance and reduces falls risk
•How chair yoga improves our mood
•How chair yoga can lower the risk of chronic disease
•How chair yoga can relieve aches and pains

The first hour will be primarily lecture and the 2nd hour will be practice.

An e book will be included as a guide along with a home practice you can use after the workshop.

This workshop is appropriate for anyone new to yoga, those with limited mobility and balance issues as well as anyone recovering from surgery as a post rehabilitation practice
