Yoga for Healing Trauma w/ Alexandra Culotta

This workshop will address the ways traumatic events impact the body, and practice deeper stretching to access trauma stored in the fascia of the body. We will find safety within our bodies, and with each other, through techniques for nervous system regulation and pain relief.

Trauma impacts everyone at some point in their life. These experiences are stored in the body and can contribute to lasting symptoms.

In this workshop, we will address the ways traumatic events impact the body. We will find safety in our bodies and with each other. We will practice techniques for nervous system regulation and pain relief. We will practice deeper stretching to access trauma stored in the fascia of the body.

This workshop will begin with a discussion and handouts on the effects of trauma on the nervous system and body, states of arousal, tools for self regulation, and methods for healing trauma. We will then move into a gentle Asana practice, focused on breathwork, centering, and finding calm within the body. Participants will be invited to journal about their experience before a brief break.

The second half will begin with slightly more active practice involving bilateral hemisphere switching and release. As a group, we will practice safety with others through optional shared contact exercises.

Our final phase on our mats will be deeper gentle stretching, to begin accessing the trauma stored within the body. Participants will be invited to journal once again, before we close with a sharing circle.

Participants in this workshop will leave with:

  • Tools for self-regulation in moments of distress as well as general anxiety
  • A renewed sense of safety in their bodies as well as with others
  • Poses to calm and relieve pain associated with trauma and stress
  • Enhanced understanding of how trauma impacts the body
  • The knowledge that they can opt out of any part of the workshop and/or do whatever makes them feel safe, without criticism or judgement.
