Youth & Family Programming

At Asheville Community Yoga we believe in the transformative power of yoga for all ages, especially for children. Our Youth & Family Programming is designed to provide young people with the tools they need to grow both physically and emotionally, fostering an environment of mindfulness, connection, and inner peace.

Why Yoga for Youth?

Yoga offers a wide array of benefits for youth. It helps them develop strength and flexibility, not only in their bodies but also in their minds. Through playful and engaging yoga practices, children learn valuable self-regulation techniques, which help them navigate their emotions and find balance in a fast-paced world.

Our weekly youth yoga classes (two classes for ages 4-10 & one class for ages 10-13), provide a supportive environment where children can tap into their inner knowing, build their self-esteem, and strengthen social connections. Yoga also helps kids improve their ability to focus and increases their body awareness, leading to a greater sense of mindfulness in all areas of their lives.

As Josie, our Youth & Family Program Coordinator, beautifully puts it:
“Children’s yoga is a portal into an imaginative world full of mindfulness, strength, and inner peace.”

Our Approach

We offer donation-based classes to make yoga accessible to all families in our community. Each class is thoughtfully designed to be fun, interactive, and educational, with age-appropriate activities that encourage children to explore yoga through games, stories, and creative movements. Whether it’s their first class or they’ve been practicing for a while, our instructors create a welcoming space where every child can thrive.

Join us at Asheville Community Yoga and watch your child grow stronger, more mindful, and more connected to themselves and the world around them.

Important Notes

Youth Classes (Ages 4-10, & Ages 10-13)

Our youth classes are designed for children ages 4 to 10, & our Tween/Teen class for ages 10 to 13. Please note that parents and guardians are not permitted to attend these sessions, as we strive to create an independent and focused environment for the children. We hope to offer Family Yoga classes in the future to accommodate parents who wish to practice alongside their children.

Asheville Community Yoga youth classes are not therapeutic programs and are not appropriate choices for youth dealing with behavioral, motivational, or rehabilitation issues. If you are unsure if your child would be suited for our youth classes, please reach out to our Youth and Family Director, Josie@AshevilleCommunityYoga.org, and we would be happy to communicate more about our program and what we can offer.

Parent Guidelines

Each youth class runs concurrently with at least one adult class, allowing you to drop off your child(ren) and enjoy your own yoga session. We like to think of this as “care for the caregiver” – a chance for you to relax and recharge while your child is engaged in a safe, fun, and enriching activity. Parents and guardians are required to remain on campus during their child(ren)’s and/or t(w)een’s class due to childcare regulations.

Pre-registration Recommended

To ensure your child has a spot, we highly recommend pre-registering. Classes are capped at 16 students, and pre-registering guarantees a place for your child. For detailed instructions on how to add your child to your Mindbody account, please click here.

Registration Process

Please register your child under their own name, rather than using the parent/guardian’s account. This ensures proper class registration and will prevent any issues when trying to sign up for your own adult classes.

Class Arrival & Studio Etiquette

Doors to youth classes open 15 minutes prior to the start of class. If you arrive earlier, kindly escort your child(ren) to the bathroom inside the studio space. We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to welcoming your child to class!

Weekly Youth Classes

Our youth classes, designed for children ages 4-10, & our Tween/Teen class for ages 10-13, offer a dynamic blend of mindfulness and yoga that is both engaging and fun. In these classes, children will cultivate self-awareness, strengthen social connections, and explore the joy of movement, stretching, and creative play. They’ll learn to find calmness through breath, stillness, guided visualization, and relaxation techniques.

Each class is thoughtfully structured around a central theme, tailored to meet the unique energy, capabilities, and needs of the children. Whether through interactive activities or focused mindfulness, our classes create a supportive environment where children can thrive, build confidence, and develop important life skills.

Prenatal Yoga

Our Prenatal Yoga classes are designed to support individuals during pregnancy through gentle movement, breathwork, and relaxation. These classes help relieve discomfort, reduce stress, and build strength and flexibility in preparation for childbirth.

With a focus on connecting body and mind, prenatal yoga promotes overall well-being, alleviates common pregnancy pains, and provides tools for mental and physical preparation in a calm and supportive environment.

In addition to the physical benefits, our prenatal yoga classes create a supportive space for individuals to connect with others who are also expecting. Sharing experiences and building a sense of community adds an enriching layer of emotional support, helping you feel empowered and connected throughout your journey. Whether you’re new to yoga or have practiced before, our classes offer a calm and welcoming environment for all.

Baby & Me Yoga

The journey into parenthood, whether for the first time or with multiple children, is an ever-evolving and never-ending adventure. In order to cater to those experiencing the first year of this transition, we developed a class designed for new parents/caregivers seeking a safe and nurturing space to breathe, stretch and bond with their new bundle of joy.

We wish to create an experience that will allow parents/caregivers to benefit from the physical, emotional and spiritual connection between themselves and their little ones.

One can anticipate light breathwork, gentle movements, restorative postures, baby massages, and more.

This series is for 0-12 month old babies or pre-walkers. Crawlers are welcome.
