Ken “Katbird” Dunn

Katbird came to meditation as a way to ease intrusive thoughts.  The practice lead him to the path of recovery from addiction.  It was through Buddhist recovery groups, focused on mindfulness and meditation where he became willing to move in a new direction.  He has been practicing mindfulness and meditation for 7 years and has been guiding meditations for much of that time.  Katbird is a student of the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program with Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield.  He is the founder and Chief Joy Facilitator of Expedition Recovery, LLC (https://expedrec.com) which provides experiential peer support to people in recovery from addiction.  His mindfulness practice is an influential part of that organization’s direction.  Katbird is also a Certified Peer Support Specialist.

Class description:
Mindfulness allows us to see things for how they truly are in the present moment.  Meditation is a practice that dates back thousands of years.  It allows us to learn to build concentration.  Together, mindfulness and meditation can provide the ability to stay present to bear witness to all the joys and challenges that life offers and to do it with grace, both for others and ourselves.  The true power of the practice comes when we leave the studio and take it out into the world.  Together we will explore three of the four foundations of mindfulness; body, feelings and mind and the heart practices of compassion, equanimity, lovingkindness and appreciative joy.  These teachings will be provided in an way that is accessible to both new and experience meditators.  This class with be facilitated as a group experience.  Participation is encouraged.
