Ken “Katbird” Dunn

Katbird came to meditation as a way to quiet intrusive thoughts and learn how to regulate overwhelming emotions. What he found was something much bigger—a path toward recovery, presence, and a more honest way of living. What started as an attempt to feel a little better became a practice that reshaped his life.
He has been practicing mindfulness and meditation for over nine years and guiding others for much of that time. His style is grounded, relatable, and refreshingly human—blending mindfulness with curiosity, humor, and a sense of play. He believes meditation doesn’t have to be rigid or perfect to be meaningful—it just has to be real.
Katbird is a certified mindfulness meditation teacher, having completed the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program with Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield, and is also a certified mindfulness mentor. He is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor and the founder and Chief Joy Facilitator of Expedition Recovery, LLC, where he leads experiential, mindfulness-based work for people in recovery.
Whether in a meditation hall or out in the woods, his work is about helping people slow down, reconnect, and build lives that actually feel like their own.
Class Description:
Mindfulness helps us see things as they actually are—right here, in the present moment. For many of us, that begins with learning how to steady our attention and regulate our inner world. Meditation, a practice rooted in thousands of years of tradition, gives us a way to do exactly that.
Together, mindfulness and meditation support us in staying present with both the joys and the challenges of life—and meeting them with a little more clarity, steadiness, and compassion.
In this class, we’ll explore core mindfulness practices, including awareness of body, feelings, and mind, along with heart-centered practices like lovingkindness, compassion, equanimity, and appreciative joy. The real power of this practice shows up when you leave the studio and bring it into your actual, messy, beautiful life.
This is a group-based experience where participation is encouraged, but never forced. Whether you’re brand new or have an established practice, you’re welcome here.
