Rachel learned about yoga as a child through her mother’s home practice. She began a regular practice when she was in high school in Santa Cruz, California and completed her 200 hour teacher training with Mark Stephens at 17. She taught often before going to school at UC Santa Barbara. Here she majored in anthropology and took various classes on eastern philosophies. Her time in school enriched her appreciation for the spiritual side of the practice adding to her love for the physical aspects of it.

Having lived in Asheville as a young child, the mountains and her family called her back to this area in winter of 2022. She was thrilled to have found the sense of authentic connection she felt through the teachers and fellow students at Asheville Community Yoga when she initially walked through its doors. She recently completed a Yin Yoga teacher training with Kelly Gilmore and felt a renewed sense of purpose in her teaching.

In her classes she hopes for students to be able to find the joy that being present in one’s own body can bring. She encourages students to bring a sense of humor on to the mat and out into the rest of their day. Rachel holds a deep reverence for how this practice can transform our relationships with ourselves and those around us, as well as the impact that change can have on our community and the world. She is honored to have the opportunity to teach here and share your practice and hopefully some laughter with her!
