Yoga & Somatic Experiencing 3 Week Series with Ocean Gettys LCSW

In this three part series, we will explore the intersections between Hatha yoga and Somatic Experiencing through the lens of nervous system repair. We will explore yoga postures, group discussion, journaling, and coregulation in service to healing our connection with our bodies, hearts, and each other. All of you is welcome.

Please note: This date refers to the first of 3 sessions.
This course will occur over 3 consecutive Thursday evenings: January 22nd, January 29th & February 5th from 6:30-8:30pm.

Week 1: Common Purposes of Yoga & Somatic Experiencing and Understanding Common Patterns of Dysregulation in the Nervous System

Week 2: Applying Foundational Somatic Experiencing Principles to Our Yoga Practice to Support Nervous System Regulation and Repair

Week 3: The Importance of Relationship in Yoga & Somatic Experiencing: Exploring Coregulatory Practices.

This three part series will allow for deeper regulation, connection with self and others, and integration and application of teaching material. In each session, we will explore themes through mindful sharing, reflection and practice in circle format with partner and small group discussion and exercises as well. Sessions will be dynamic and engaging with a variety of teaching methods focused on fostering collaborative, emergent learning.

This series aims to help participants better understand their unique nervous system dysregulation patterns and learn how to move towards regulation and health through their yoga practice and also through relational practices. It also focuses on offering an experience of what it looks and feels like to be in embodied relationship and community with others, which many of us are longing for but don’t find accessible in our daily lives due to the overvaluing of cognitive based processing within our culture. We’ll look at what it means to truly BE together and know each other through heart, body, and mind, offering a more holistic, satisfying experience of connection. This offering is structured as a series in order to allow for natural deepening of relational safety and connectedness over time within the group container.

This offering is distinct from Ocean’s Friday class (Gentle Yoga and Somatic Experiencing) and previous workshops in that there will be more opportunity for:

  • Q&A w/ teaching portions

  • Journaling reflection

  • Blend of large group, partner, and small group discussion

  • Longer individual practice portion

  • Multiple co-regulatory practices

  • Opening and closing sharing to promote integration and community connectedness

  • Slower pace overall, more time for each section of series

  • Space between sessions for integration & reflection

You are an integral part of our human community, and your presence is welcomed and celebrated in this space.
